Parents love telling children that all their video game playing won't amount to squat, but there are rare instances that will shut them up. And we're not talking about those who kids end up being highly paid eSports athletes or the like.
You also have the presumably proud mom and dad of ten-year-old Gryffin Sanders from Colarado, who was able to save his life, along with his four old brother's and his great grandmother's, thanks to some calm nerves and Mario Kart skills
As Destructoid notes, it's nice seeing a feel good story involving games on the news for once, as opposed to them being blame for whatever societal ills like usual:
Basically, as Gryffin's great grandmother was behind the wheel, she immediately passed out, from a mild heart attack it is assumed. With the vehicle going about 60 miles per hour and veering into oncoming traffic, the skills that Gryffin acquired on Rainbow Road kicked in and he was able to safely guide their vehicle into a muddy ditch.
His grandmother was later air lifted to a hospital where she is expected to recover. It goes without saying that, come this Christmas, and perhaps every other following, Gryffin will get whatever video game he damn well pleases.
